Ordering decimals up to 3 digits

Today in Maths we were doing decimal places. I had to make a table with a ones column, decimal point, tenths, hundredths and thousandths. I just counted to ten for the easy questions. if its 0.2 and 0.5, 0.2 is the smallest because 0.5 is bigger than 0.2. Check out my blog down below!

Photos of the Liturgical Year

 This week in Religious Education (RE) we are learning about Advent. Before you read below one fact that I learned was the most important feast in the Liturgical Year is Easter, the day of Jesus Christ's Resurrection. Now read down below if you want to learn more about Advent.

Our trip to the Emirates Team NZ HQ

Last week Wednesday my school from year 5-8 students went to the Emirates Team NZ Headquarters. We went there to explore and learn about technology that they have. Read down below to see how our trip went!

On the 25th of November, our school from year 5-8 students went to the Emirates Team NZ Headquarters. First we had to wake up early because the bus had to leave at 8 ‘clock. That morning I woke up at 6 ’clock. I went to school and some people were there. While we were waiting we were put into two groups of 28. There was a Group A and Group B. I was put into Group B. Most of the seniors were put into Group B. 

After minutes of waiting we went onto the bus. While we were on the bus we were singing songs. We arrived to the city around 9:30 because we had to walk across the bridge. I was so tired of walking. Finally after walking we made it. There were about four to five of the people walking there. 

The was the main lady and her name was Jenny. Jenny told us the directions we were going to go in and, we had to be in a walking bus. At the end of the walking bus was a crew member and her name was Sara. Sara made sure that none of the people at the back were paying attention. We finally made it to the place. When we went up to the place we had to go up the stairs. My legs were completely dead after that.

After walking up a lot of stairs we were there. It was a cool place. It smelt brand new. There was a lady that told us what she was holding. She was holding a sphero bolt. A sphero bolt is shaped like a ball that you can control. There was an iPad that controlled the sphero bolt and we could change its color. We had to be in pairs. My partner was Monique. Monique and I each had a turn and it was so cool. I learnt how to 

Then after practising we could have a race, but we had to switch partners. My new partner was Arvay. Arvay was a cool partner at times, but sometimes she’d just keep the ball to herself. Then after learning the map, we could race others. We raced Taniela and Aniseko, and Mele and Audrey. I learnt how to aim and drive.

First Taniela and Aniseko raced Mele and Audrey. There was four cones but there was five courses. Mele and Audrey was in the lead, but then Taniela and Aniseko caught up with them. The winners were Taniela and Aniseko. After that it was our turn. We had to verse Taniela and Aniseko. Arvay was going to verse Taniela. Then we counted down from three to one, they were off. Taniela was off on a good start, but then Arvay caught up with Taniela. The winner was Taniela. After racing everyone we had to pack up and go back. I learnt how to control the speed of the sphero bolt.l

While we were walking there was the back of the fish place. There was a lot of guys there and one of the guys said “When you finished, come back here and take some fish”. Then Mele and I said “ Yeah we’ll come back”. We all laughed. We walked back and Group B were having there lunch. While they were eating, we saw that the bridge was breaking apart for the boat to go through. 

After that we went to the 5g spark. We were put into four groups of five. In my group there was Monique, Melie, Mele, Ana and myself. One of the member of the 5g Spark took us around the place. Her name was Sim. Sim told us that we had to make up a name for our group. We huddled together and made a group name. Our group name was called The Five Islanders. When we went inside we sanitized our hands. We had to wait for a few minutes because the other group was in there. 

Our first activity was going through a wind tunnel. Where ever our hands went on the screen it would follow. Sim told us that the wind tunnel, is the wind when the people are racing.

After that we went to the next room of where there would race. There were five courses that they could race at. The first course is Course A, the next one is Course B, then Course C, after that Course D and Course E.

We would know where and when they will race. After that we went to a game, where you could control the boat but by technology. We all had a turn, but Sim said that I had the best speed and control of the boat. Then we went to the photo booth and took some photos. There was some photos that are photo shopped. One photo that I liked was with our reliever. 

After taking photos we went and watched a movie about the boats. One fact that I learned about the boats was that with the boats every time, they race they always have two people that go across each side every 20 seconds to see if the sides of the boat is ok.

After the movie we went to another place, where there was a room full of tablets. Sim said that at home we have a lot of devices that use the wifi. Sim showed that the 5g Spark is fast and they can have as many devices, and their wifi won’t slow down. We took some photos and it would show up on one of the devices on the screen.

Then we went to the boat design. The Boat Design is where you have a iPad in front of you and you can design your own boat. I had the highest in my group. My score out of 100 was 96.

After that we looked at the fin of the boat from the boat of Team New Zealand. It felt really thin and it looked amazing. Sim said that that was the fin from when they raced in 2002 and won the America’s Cup. 

After that we went outside because we were finished. We saw the other group so we went to them. They were showing some really cool mind tricks. Then we looked at some of the boats. After that we all came together and said bye to everyone. There were still some people in the place, so we couldn’t go. Finally we hopped on the bus and went back to school.

Today in class we were looking at what is going on in the world.

Here is my answers to some of the questions.

America’s president is often described as the most powerful person

because number one they have one of the most biggest armies, navy and air force.

The two main political parties in America are (red) The Republicans and (blue) Democrats. The Electoral College votes are based on the biggest states that are voting. All together there are 538 electoral votes. To win, a party needs 270 to win. They usually take the big states etc California, Texas, Florida and many more. 

We might not know because Mr Trump’s team made a legal challenge in three or four states. The state that has the most Electoral votes is Texas. Mr Trump complained about how the Democrats are cheated by using ballots. Mr Trump is a controversial figure because some people dislike his actions and the way he treats his country.

Joe Biden’s team picked smaller gatherings due to covid-19. Mr Trump’s decorator’s claim that he is an embarrassment. This happened 20 years ago, but because of the disputed vote counts in three or four states. 

The Electoral College votes needs 270 votes to win the election. The news papers and new channels said that they knew Mr Trump was going to lose. The winner of the election needs to be confirmed before the 20th of January. Mr Trump “picked a fight” with China. Mr Trump thinks that the way China trades with America is unfair. Alaska’s Electoral Votes are only three.

 Luke 2:1 - 20 The Birth of Jesus

In this scripture Luke 2:1 - 20 The Birth of Jesus, it’s telling us about how Caesar Augustus issued a decree to take over the Roman world. Then Joseph went to Judea, from the town in Nazareth in Galilee, he then went to Bethlehem. Joseph went there to register with Mary, to be married, because Mary was expecting a baby. While they were still there Mary felt that the baby was coming. Then in seconds he came. This baby was her first born. Mary wrapped him in clothes and put him in a manger. There was no guest room for them to lay the baby down. 

We know this because when Jesus was born he was put in a manger. Mary also introduced Jesus to Joseph. After that there were very happy that they had a baby.

Lastly Mary always trusted the Holy Spirit because of what The Angel Gabriel said. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Stories about Mary - Luke 39-56

 Luke: 39 - 56 Mary Visits Elizabeth

In this scripture reading Luke: 39 - 56 Mary Visits Elizabeth, we find out about Mary visiting Elizabeth. Mary hurried to go to a town in the country Judea. When Mary finally arrived there Mary went to Zechariah’s house. When Mary entered the house Mary greeted Elizabeth and Elizabeth greeted Mary and the baby. Elizabeth said “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!”. Mary was confused on why everyone was greeting her like royalty. 

We know this because in the scripture Mary sounds confused of why Elizabeth and others are greeting Mary like this. Mary answered to Elizabeth “But why am I so favoured, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”. 

Lastly Elizabeth said “Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

Stories about Mary

 Today in RE we were learning about how Mary found out she was having a baby. Not just any baby but the Son of the Most High. If you want to learn more about what we did read down below!.

Luke: 26-38 The Birth Foretold

In this scripture reading Luke: 26-38 The Birth Foretold, it is talking about how Mary’s first encounter with God. The Angel Gabriel was sent by God to go tell Mary about her first child. The Angel Gabriel was in a town called Galilee and went to a town called Nazareth. Gabriel found Mary and said to her “Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you.” When Mary heard him she was confused. Then he told her “You will have a baby and it’s name is Jesus the Son of the Most High…”. Mary answered “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”.

We know this because in the bible it says the same thing. It says “Mary will have a baby and it’s name will be Jesus the Son of the Most High”. 

 

Lastly the scripture says “I am fulfilled, I will keep your words.” We know this because in the bible she was really happy to have a baby.

Cockroaches - Creepy or Incredible

Communion of Saints - Tell a Lie

Lying can be good and bad sometimes, but mostly bad. You can lie for a person which is a good lie. If you are lying about something that you are trying to cover up then that’s for a bad reason. 

Tell a lie: I took my brother’s lunch and ate it. He then came and asked me if I ate it and I said no. Then he went to go look for it.

Story: One tie I went in the fridge and saw that there was some food so I ate it. After I ate it my brother cam up to me and asked “ Have you seen my lunch? “. I said “ No “. After that I felt guilty so I went to him, and told the truth. He wasn’t to happy about it. He then told me “ Don’t steal people’s lunches, and don’t lie. Always tell the truth and if you wanted some food you could’ve just told me “. Then I hugged him and said sorry.

St Peter - Communion of Saints

 Today our class made a DLO about saints. We could pick whatever saint with our birth date. I chose St Peter. Here is my work.

Chelsea's Sugar Factory

On November the 2nd, our class went to Chelsea’s Sugar Factory. When we arrived there with the bus driver. After parking the bus we went inside and went into a room. One of the members Lauren introduced us to the other members. Then we were split into two groups. One was pink and the other one was orange. The pink team went on the factory tour and we went to bake. There were three of them, Jo is the baking lady and Tatum and Graham are the tour guides. One cool thing when we went inside was there was these seats that you could put your stuff in. It’s like a locker but a seat locker. 

First we went to bake Chocolate Chip Cookies with Jo. We had to partner up with somebody. I partnered with Angeline. Second Jo, explained what we needed to do. First we had to wash our hands. Second we went to a table. Here’s the tricky part. Third we had to put the melted butter in the bowl. Then we had to pour the whole of the caster sugar into the bowl, then mix it with a spatula. Fourth I put the brown sugar in and, and there were a lot of chunks so we had to press down so that we didn’t have to eat the brown sugar. Then we poured the vanilla essence. Then we mixed it all together after doing that we put the chocolate in. Then after it was ready we had to roll together in a ball shape. We then had to put it in the oven. We had to wait for it to cool down so we could move it to the edge of the tray, so it would cool down faster. After that Angeline washed the dishes while I started decorating my box.

After that we waited for Tatum and Graham to come then we watched a safety video about the tour. After that we went on the train around the factory. First we went to the place of the ship. A ship comes in every 6 weeks and takes 5 days to unload the raw sugar. This was their first time for the sugar coming from India. Then we went up to where they store the sugar. It was like a mountain of sugar. The building where they keep the sugar covers two rugby fields which is crazy!!. They also have a tunnel where sugar goes through and leads to where it goes. Then we went to the inside where all of the sugar processes. There were a lot of cool things. We had to wear safety goggles to protect us. Tatum gave us a tour on where we were going. We were going to Keith and John. When we were walking up to their station it smelt like honey. Then we went inside and the aircon was so cold and it felt so good. They explained to us what they do. Then we went back to the train. 

Later on we went to where all the trucks are. When we went in there we tasted syrup at the end. I didn’t taste any because I don’t like syrup. Soon we went back to the place. After that we went to the Interactive Zone. We did a quiz, online baking and learning the history of Chelsea’s Sugar Factory. Then after that we had lunch. After we had lunch we went to the park, but Lauren said that we couldn’t play on the park because the park only allows 8 year olds and under to play.

By the time we went back inside the other group was already done. We thanked Lauren for having us there and then we all packed our bags and went into the bus.

I loved being there my favorite part of the trip was baking and eating the cookies. I would definitely go there again. Also you should go there too!.

Recount Writing Volleyball

This is a recount writing for a test. We had to write a time with our friends. I wrote about a time when I went to a Volleyball Tournament with my classmates and friends. Here is my story.

One day my class had a Volleyball tournament, at Selwyn College. We had two teams. One team was black and another was red. I was on the red team, so we had versed different schools. My friend Moala was on my team as well so I was excited. We didn’t know who we were versing on our first game. My teacher just said that “we are going to play at 10:30”.

First we all had to go to school early and change into our uniform. We had to wait for one more person to come because it wasn’t enough. Then my teacher Ms Nees Kairua separated us into different groups to go into the cars. One group went with my teacher, another group went in a taxi van.

As soon as we arrived there we did some practices outside and stretched. I wondered if we could spike. The rules of the game was to not hit the ball over once and you couldn’t spike. You had to hit the ball to the other person, then the other person would pass the ball to the last person and they would hit it over. You couldn’t just hit it over.

The first game I was nervous, because I have never been in a Volleyball tournament before. When the game started I was focused on the ball because that’s what my mum taught me. I closely payed attention to the ball and when the ball was coming to me I was scared I thought the ball was going to hit my face. 

After I hit the ball I wasn’t nervous anymore I felt confident. Right after the game finished, then my mum came and gave me some food. We had some practices after we ate something. We were just practising the things we couldn’t do in Volleyball. We did a little practice then went inside for our other team to play. Later on we went to our game. The game that we played was a little bit easier this time because it was people that weren’t our size. Overall it was good.

Later that day we finished our games. Then one group went with my mum and I, another group went with one of my classmates parents, the last group went with Ms Nees Kairua. On the way back to school my mum went to McDonald’s to buy us a Frozen coke.

My opinion of the day was it was a good day a lot of other schools did well, the teams that we versed were good too. My favourite part was when I could eat. I would definitely do it again. After all of that I was exhausted and tired.

Tables Torture - Maths

Today in class, I was doing Tables Torture. Basically Tables Torture is a Maths subject. It’s multiplication. On the side you can choose what difficulty from 1-5. There is also a timer, once you press that’s when you can start. If you want to work it out you can also pause the timer. My time was 5:14. My goal is to work faster and harder.

Volleyball Tournament

 On Wednesday the 4th of August my class Te Wairua Pakiki 5 had a Volleyball Tournament. At first I woke up at 6:00 then I put on my clothes. As soon as I reached school I went straight to my classroom because I forgot my teacher told us to go to the library when we come to school. 

After I put on my clothes I waited for everyone else to come. Then everyone turned up so. After we all we changed into our uniforms our teacher Ms Nees - Kairua sorted out who’s cars we were going to go in.

Beata’s dad Josh came to help with dropping of some of us to the stadium. We were playing Volleyball in the Selwyn College gym. When we walked to the gym we found some where to sit and watch other people play.

The rules were you had to set it to the first person, then the first person had to set it to the second person but the second person could hold it, then the second person had to throw it up high so the third person could set it or spike it to the other team.

There were two teams of us. There was a black team and a red team. First the black team played against Point England. At first in my opinion they were playing really good and finished off with a win.

Then it was the red team’s turn to play which was my team. We versed Glen Taylor. Then as soon as the game finished we went straight to the empire. A empire is a person who controls the game. After the empire saw the scores the empire told us who the winners were and it was us

After we played we had something to eat then we went outside to have a practise of Volleyball. I just had some water because I was thirsty and not hungry. We then came back and it was time for the black team to have their game.

They were versing Panmure Bridge. When we were watching them they were doing so well but then some one from Panmure Bridge spiked it and they had 1 more point than them. Then we were cheering loud for all of them so they could get another point.

After it was the last second and then they setted it and they didn’t even get the ball. Then they all went to the empire and got nervous because they didn’t know if they won or not. When they found out that they won they got very excited and ran around the whole stadium.

The last game it was the black team from St Pius X verse the red team from St Pius X we only found that we were versing each other when we just finished praticing. We all were excited to see the scores because we were all getting cocky. 

Our scores were 16 - 10 to the red team. My team was so happy. After that we all had a break and had something to drink we all went back to school.
