Maths - Word Problems and Multiplication

Today in class my group was doing maths, here is what we were doing.

Word Problem
Mark was told he needed four truckloads of gravel to cover his driveway

5 x $20 + $30 for the delivery.
How much will it cost him to cover his driveway with the gravel.
5 x $20 + $30 = 130

Word Problem continued

One hour has 60 minutes.
How many minutes in 12 hours? There is 720 minutes in 12 hours.
How many minutes in 24 hours? There is 1,440 minutes in 24 hours.

One hour has 60 minutes, and one minute has 60 seconds.
How many seconds are in a hour? 3,600

Ed earns $30 dollars per hour.
How much will he earn in a 8 hour workday?
$240
How much will he earn in a 40 hour workday?
$1,200
How many days will he need to work in order to earn more than $1,000?
5 days 8 hours.

Multiplying by whole 10’s and 100’s contiuned

a)
20 x 7 = 140.
10 x 2 x 7 = 140.
10 x 14 = 140
140 x 10 x 14 = 280

b)
20 x 5 = 100
100 x 2 x 5 = 1,000
10 x 1,000 = 10,000
10,000 x 10 = 100,00
c)
200 x 8 = 1,600
1,600 x 2 x 8 = 25,600
25,600 x 100 = 256,000
256,000 x 100 = 25600,000

d)
200 x 5 = 1,000
1,000 x 2 x 8 = 16,000
16,000 x 100 = 1600,000
1600,000 x 100 = 160,000
