Krystal - Amazing Plants Presentation

Last week on Friday, the whole of Te Wairua Pakiki (TWP) Whanau did a made a presentation about plants. Dr. Jannie Van Hees came to watch us. We were all split up into different groups of trees. Some of us were presenting about the Native Trees in New Zealand, and some of us were presenting about the Pacific Plants. We all could choose what we wanted to do. My group chose to do a movie. First the Native Tree people had to present. In my group it was Sione, Dereon, Arvay & David. Our presentation was about the Rimu Tree. The other native trees were the Kauri Tree, Ti Kouka, Puriri Tree, Kawakawa Tree, Manuka and Kanuka, Totara & Rimu. The Pacific plants that were presented were the Heilala, Ngatae, Hiapo, Kava & Coconut. Dr. Jannie was gifted a Heilala Garland, by Ana in the Heilala group.

My favourite native tree presentation was the Totara Tree, because I liked their rap.

My favourite pacific tree presentation was the Ngatae Tree, because they had a cool rap.

Krystal - Current Events Eusocial Plants Term 2 2021

WALT: analyse media with an open but critical eye to inform our own opinions

Today we did read a story about, researchers from New Zealand going to Lord Howe Island and exploring it. I had to answer some questions and many other stuff. I also had to do an activity about the story. The second activity was to see if you read the story properly. For the first activity I had to do a glossary. A glossary is like a list of words that you don't know, then you find the meaning to it. Here are my activities!

Krystal, Monique and Vince - Rātā Tree

Today in TWP (Te Wairua Pakiki), we are learning about New Zealand native trees. This is important because, the trees are the tagata whenua which connects to Tāne Mahuta. In this activity we had to match ourselves up with another person. It was the year 5's together with the year 8's, then the year 6's and 7's together. We were put into 18 groups of three or two, it was Monique, Vince and I. We had to discuss what our group name was going to be. We decided to learn more about the rātā tree. We had to look up on google of what the Rātā leaves look like, the rātā flowers look like, the fruit/seeds look like and what the bark looks like. Here is our activity below!

Krystal - Whats Plants? & Leaves

Today we (TWP Whanau) had to figure out some names of the leaves that are from a tree. We had to find a partner in our whanau group to work with. I chose Maraia. In the first activity we had to figure the names of the plant. We had to find out the native trees here in New Zealand. We had to search up most of the plants to see if it was right. In the second activity we had to figure the names of the trees by looking at the type of bark on the tree. One photo of the trees were blurry. After we did that in our paper we had to do it all on our Chromebook. Here are our activities!

After I watched the video I wrote down some words I didn't know like a glossary. Then I had to find out the meaning of it. There were four words I didn't know the meaning to. Here is my activity!
